Star all-rounder Shahid Afridi has tested positive for COVID-19, manager Quetta Gladiators Azam Khan said on Thursday, hours ahead of the start of the seventh edition of the Pakistani Super League.
He will quarantine at home following PCB's protocol and will be re-inducted into the team after seven days of quarantine and negative tests.
The team management said that yesterday, Afridi had left the bio-secure bubble to visit the hospital, where he spent a few hours and on his return he tested positive.
Afridi did not show symptoms of the disease, the administration said.
A day earlier, Afridi had requested the franchise management to release him for medical and personal reasons, just a day before the start of the PSL.
Afridi had told the management that he was suffering from back pain and that his sister-in-law had passed away.
