Oscar-nominated director Ed Perkins sifted through hundreds of hours of footage of Princess Diana in search of moments he hoped would offer a new perspective on her life and public image 25 years after her death.

"Our hope was to use the collection as a kind of time machine to take viewers back into our collective past and allow them to re-live the story," he told Reuters.
