Karachi: Like the previous edition, arch-rivals Pakistan and India have been placed in the same group for the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 to be played in Australia.
The arch-rivals will begin their campaign on 23 October in a high-octane match at the historic Melbourne Cricket Ground.
Both sides are placed together in Group 2 in the Super 12 round for the next tournament. They will be joined by Bangladesh, South Africa and two teams from the first round in the group.
The T20 World Cup 2022 schedule was announced by the ICC on Friday, confirming that the 16-team summit will be played at various venues in Australia from October 16 to November 13.
Namibia and Sri Lanka will join the two teams in Group A from the qualifiers while West Indies and Scotland will join the other two teams in Group B.
After the first leg, four of the eight teams will directly qualify for the top 8 in the Super 12 round.
The event will begin on 16 October with a first round match between Namibia and former champions Sri Lanka, with the two Group A qualifying teams taking on each other on the same day.
Hosts and defending champions, Australia will take on New Zealand in the opening match of the Super 12 at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) on Saturday 22 October in a rematch of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2021 final.
Pakistan will begin their World Cup 2022 campaign with a match against India in Melbourne on 23 October. The match will start at 1 pm.

The Pakistan team will face South Africa at the SCG on November 3. The former champions will play their last group match against Bangladesh in Adelaide on 6 November.
The semi-finals will be played at the SCG and the Adelaide Oval on November 9 and 10 respectively. This will be the first time that the Adelaide Oval will host a World Cup semi-final.
The MCG will host the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2022 final, which will be played under lights on 13 November 2022.
