A former Leeds United player is talking about how he expects Liverpool striker Mohamed Salah to be there after the disappointment of losing the Africa Cup of Nations final.
Salah's Egypt lost on penalties in the final as Sadio Mane hit the deciding spot-kick to win the trophy for Senegal.
Noel Whelan told Football Insider he believes the 29-year-old will be pleased to be back at Liverpool but will still have a lot to play for this season with the Reds despite feeling a strong sense of disappointment .
"He would be happy to be back in Liverpool.
“They will still have an overwhelming sense of despair as no one likes to lose a final after coming so close.
"But it's not time to feel sorry for yourself. You're still chasing the Premier League, you're in the League Cup final, you're still in Europe and the FA Cup."
Whelan also said that he hopes Salah leaves his AFCON disappointment behind by winning at least one trophy with Liverpool.
"I'm pretty sure he's not going to finish the season without the trophy. That Sunday loss will probably give him even more determination.
"He could go and win some serious silverware with Liverpool who have come so close to the African Cup of Nations."
