Notre Dame is working hard to get into the mix with talented Texas wide receiver Jaden Greathouse
Notre Dame wide receivers coach Chancy Stuckey has hit the ground running and started building deep relationships with many of the nation's top receivers. Luckily for Stuckey, one of the best pass catchers in the country — Austin (Texas) Westlake star Jaden Greathouse — likely already made a connection when he was at the boiler.
Now Stuckey and Greathouse have to continue that connection, but now the Irish Receivers coach has an even stronger brand behind it.
"I'm in constant contact with Notre Dame, especially Coach (Chancy) Stuckey," Greathouse said. "We talk about everything; it goes beyond football."
The 6-2, 210-pound pass catcher has clearly developed an excellent relationship with Stucky, but that's not the extent of the Notre Dame staff's influence. Greathouse has become a priority in the classroom, with both head coach Marcus Freeman and offensive coordinator Tommy Rees increasingly joining this recruitment.
With Notre Dame on offer in early January, education is huge for what Irish programs and culture can provide to Greathouse. By now, the sight is becoming more and more clear for the talented wide receiver.
“Notre Dame is a great place to get my degree and develop myself to get to the next level,” explained Greathouse.
State champion and a part of the 16-0 Westlake squad, Greathouse Clemson was the leading pass catcher for SY Cade Klubnik, the No. 1 quarterback in the country according to the SI All-American. Greathouse exploded this season for 1,274 receiving yards and 20 touchdowns on 66 receptions. That dynamic junior campaign culminated in the team's 40-21 state championship win over Denton (Texas) Guyer and current Notre Dame committer Peyton Bowen and four-star cornerback Ryan Yeights with 236 yards and three touchdowns over seven receptions.
On film, Greathouse brings up an interesting profile around the situation. His alpha demeanor and competitiveness for Westlake are visible on screen.
"I'm a versatile guy who will play after the catch and come down with the ball no matter what," Greathouse said.
As is the case with potential Notre Dame recruits, coming to campus in South Bend will be a huge step in their recruitment. While Greathouse isn't on campus yet, he plans to visit this April.
Recruitment rankings for Greathouse are all over the place. ESPN ranks him as the nation's No. 87 overall player (No. 3 receiver) and rivals rank him as No. 89 (No. 15 wide receiver), while 247Sports ranks him as No. 191 overall (No. 22 receiver) and No. Ranked on 3. No. 251 overall (No. 39 wide receiver).
Westlake Star is pretty close to the rankings of ESPN and rivals. If the Irish geniuses were able to land the pass catcher, it would be a massive pickup.
Greathouse has offers from Notre Dame, Texas, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Michigan, USC, Penn State, Baylor, Arkansas, South Carolina, West Virginia, Arizona State and Kansas.
