UConn women's basketball freshman Azzi Fudd was named the BIG EAST Freshman of the Week after two standout performances last week.
NEW YORK - Yukon women's basketball freshman Azzie Food was named the Greatest Former Freshman of the Week last week after two exceptional performances.
The Fudd shone in the top non-conference win by a Big East team this season as the 10th-ranked Husky knocked out No. 7 Tennessee on Sunday, 75-56. Playing in his eighth game, the freshman guard scored a career-high 25 points in 9-of-16 shooting, adding four rebounds and four assists in three 7-for-9 attempts. He recorded 39 minutes of turnover-free play.
Fudd helped Yukon recover from a double-digit deficit at Creighton on Wednesday, scoring 10 second-half points off the bench and sparking a road win for the Husky to remain unbeaten in Big East play. For the week she averaged 17.5 points and shot .571, including three to .750 clips.
Redshirt senior Evina Westbrook was named to the Weekly Honor Roll. Westbrook had a two-point scoring game in week 2–0, including 14 points, four rebounds, three assists in a win over No. 7 Tennessee.
Villanova's Maddie Siegrist was named the conference's Player of the Week.
UConn hosts Villanova (15-6, 9-3) on Wednesdays at 7 p.m. XL in the center.
