Drummond Green has a targeted return date after missing more than two months with a back injury.
Earlier this week, it was reported that Warriors forward Draymond Greene may be returning to in-game action very soon and according to head coach Steve Kerr, those reports are true.
Ahead of Tuesday night's match against Golden State's Los Angeles Clippers, Kerr announced in his pre-game press conference that Green would scramble with the team on Wednesday. He also said that the target return date for further launches would be March 14.
"We've known for the past few weeks that there was a general timetable around that date, but that has now been indicated," Kerr said. “We have seen him speed up the movement and improve his conditioning. He's feeling better every day."
Greene has missed the last 26 games for Golden State - 27 if the seven seconds seen on the floor on Jan. 9 against the Cleveland Cavaliers are excluded. Due to a disc injury in his back, this has been the longest sting in his 10-year career.
During that time, the Warriors have gone just 12–14, dropping to the No. 3 seed in the Western Conference. Currently in a five-match losing streak, the Warriors look less prepared for playoff basketball by the day and with only 17 games left in the regular season, they will need to reestablish themselves immediately.
"He'll scream [Wednesday]," Kerr said. "Get some live work and hopefully the rest of the week went really well and he's back on that Monday."
Green announced his possible return date on Monday in an episode of his podcast "The Drummond Green Show."
"I'm anticipating or targeting my return next Monday against the 14th Wizards," Green said. "I'm excited as hell, it's been two and a half months... the season."
While that comeback depends on how Green's body responds to sparring, things seem to be looking up for the Warriors, who more than ever before are in dire need of the presence of a defensive Player of the Year candidate.
