Prince Harry, Meghan Markle to receive 'VVIP' protocol in Netherlands

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will be treated as VVIP personnel when they visit the Netherlands

As The Mirror reports, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will be treated as VVIP personnel when they travel to the Netherlands to attend the Invictus Games.

Reports suggest the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will have their own personal security team to ensure their safety at the Games, in addition to having security officials in the country at their disposal as a 'very important person'.

VVIP status ensures that Prince Harry and Meghan will be directly connected to law enforcement and emergency services in the Netherlands throughout their visit.

A source close to the couple was quoted by The Mirror as saying: "Harry and Meghan have received absolute top assurance that there is no credible threat to their safety. This is the view of Dutch authorities and other agencies across the continent."

“In any case, as they are attending a high-profile event in the Netherlands, both the Duke and Duchess are classified as VVIPs for the duration of their stay and for their safety at all times in the Netherlands. The overall responsibility will be the Dutch authorities."

The overall responsibility for the security of Harry and Meghan will rest with the Royal and Diplomatic Security Service of the Dutch National Police.

Harry decided to skip his grandfather Prince Philip's memorial service in London just weeks after the couple's trip to Europe as he battles a legal battle against the British government.
