Queen Elizabeth reportedly on alert as Jamaica seeks to break free from British crown
As Express UK reports, Queen Elizabeth is reportedly on alert as Jamaica has announced that she will put forward her candidate for the next Commonwealth-Secretary-General's election.
Kamina Johnson-Smith, who met Prince William and Kate during their recent tour of the Caribbean, announced this week that she would challenge Baroness of Scotland for the position.
The announcement comes just weeks after Jamaica made it clear it wanted to sever ties with the monarch during a March visit by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
During the visit, the country's Prime Minister Andrew Holness said, "We are moving forward." He is now expected to run in the upcoming elections for the Commonwealth-Secretary-General.
Prime Minister Holness supported Johnson-Smith's announcement, saying she would "bring a wealth of experience to this position and remains committed to international public service."
