Megan Thee Stallion Was Awarded 'Key to the City' by Houston Mayor
The Mayor of Houston declared May 2 as 'Megan Thee Stallion Day' in the city for the rapper's philanthropic contributions.
Megan Thee Stallion was also awarded the 'Key to the City' by Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner for representing the city.
Taking to Instagram, the rapper shared the news with his 28.7 million followers as he dropped a series of photos receiving the keys.
The Girls in the Hood singer captioned the post, "Come home early to receive Tei Key and in honor of my mom and grandma's birthday May 2nd is officially Megan Thee Stallion Day in Houston Texas"
She expressed her gratitude to the mayor, saying, "Thank you to the mayor for honoring me today and I will continue to give back to the city that made me who I am today.
The 27-year-old Grammy-winning artist was also given a cowboy hat with an official belt buckle.
Honoring the musician with Keys, Turner said, "Megan Thee Stallion has had an extraordinary entertainment career, but we wanted to honor her for what she does to uplift the lives of people in underserved communities. "
He continued, "The individuals who receive the key are responsible for upholding Houston's values and representing the best this city has to offer."
"Indeed, the key is our commitment to the people who best represent Houston," he said.
