The Queen's plane was forced to abort the landing after a strong lightning struck.

The unfortunate incident happened when the 96-year-old King was on his way to London for his Platinum Jubilee celebrations on Tuesday.

The Emperor departed Balmoral for the occasion when his 13-seater plane was hit by a lightning storm, followed by rain and hail.

According to The Sun, the incident caused the pilot to abort the landing on the first attempt.

A Buckingham Palace spokesman said: "The Queen's flight was delayed due to a lightning storm, all correct procedures were followed and there were no security concerns."

The Queen had traveled to Balmoral on Thursday for a short break to pace herself before the festivities.
