Bridgeton star Nicola Coughlan has opened up about her breakout fame after the hit Netflix series, and says being famous is like being an animal at the zoo.
In a recent interview for the March issue of Elle UK, Coughlan 35 compared fame to being 'a dog on the tube'.
"Being famous is like being a dog on a tube. It's exactly that energy," said the Irish actress.
She explained, “When you move, everyone is looking at you. Some people are so smiley, while some are afraid of you and don't want to be near. Some people touch you without asking."
While Coughlan can still do the things she loves, she says it's all a little different once she finds success, which she explained with an anecdote.
“I went to the pub with my friend a while back and it was like being an animal in the zoo. People are just watching and watching," she shared, "... but honestly, most people are so cute."
Bridgerton, in which Coughlan plays Penelope Featherington, became Netflix's biggest show when it was released in December 2020.
