KARACHI: While fans are eagerly waiting for the new anthem of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), it was revealed on Thursday that eminent singers Atif Aslam and Aima Baig will perform live at the league's star-studded opening ceremony in Karachi.
The inaugural ceremony of PSL 2022 will take place on January 27 at the National Stadium in Karachi.
The recording of this year's anthem has been completed and the opening lyrics according to Geo News are: "Haath Hawa Mein Uthale, Dil Ka Hosala Barhlay, Shoor Zara Tu Machale."
Senior sports correspondent Abdul Majeed Bhatti told the TV channel that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is hopeful of holding the ceremony but the COVID-19 situation is deteriorating day by day.
He said that recently 10 PCB staff members including PSL officials Usman Wahala and On Zaidi tested COVID-19 positive. He said that the wife and mother of Quetta Gladiators captain Sarfaraz Ahmed are also infected.
Bhatti said that despite the challenges, the PCB is taking all possible measures to start the tournament.
He said that the PCB has increased the strength of the team for the franchise, even if 12 out of 20 players test negative for COVID, they can play.
"The first match is scheduled to take place on January 27 at 7 PM at NSK, but before that, [the singers] will perform live. The PCB is determined to take all steps to organize this tournament," he said.
It is pertinent to mention here that the NCOC had restricted the presence of crowd for Karachi-leg matches, while children below the age of 12 will not be allowed to enter the stadium due to rising cases of coronavirus.
