Aakash Chopra has questioned the decision to replace Venkatesh Iyer in the Indian team along with Deepak Hooda for the upcoming ODI series against West Indies.
Iyer was selected as the batting all-rounder for the Indian ODI team for the tour of South Africa. However, after just two ODIs, the 27-year-old was dropped. Furthermore, he was only invited to bowl in one game.
During a discussion on Star Sports show "Game Plan" by Aakash Chopra, Hooda was asked about Venkatesh Iyer's replacement in India's ODI team. He said, "
"Give anyone a chance, but please support your choice if you want to give them a chance." Give them longer chances because the number one you expect a player to perform at is the toughest number, batting at number 6 and some middle order overs.
Cricketer-turned-commentators Rahul Chahar and Varun Chakraborty were dropped from the selectors' radar after the T20 World Cup. Added Chopra:
"I hope the team management and selectors are on the same page." When it comes to the World Cup, your wicket-takers were Rahul Chahar and Varun Chakraborty; You don't know their names yet, and the selection committee hasn't discussed them."
Chahar and Chakraborty were not included in Team India's T20I squad for the West Indies series. The lineup consists of four spinners Yuzvendra Chahal, Ravi Bishnoi, Axar Patel and Washington Sundar.
Aakash Chopra says, "You just asked Venkatesh Iyer to bowl 4-5 overs in a match."
