Lata Mangeshkar, the voice of Indian cinema, has passed away. He was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai a month ago after a corona infection, where he breathed his last at 8.12 am today. Take a look at the important milestones of Lata Mangeshkar's musical journey.
The talk is around the year 1943-44. The shooting of a film was going on in Kolhapur and the famous singer of this time Noor Jahan had come there to record her songs. A little girl was also playing the role in the same film.
The producer of the film introduced the girl to Noor Jahan and said that she is a Lata and she also sings the song. Noor Jahan said with alacrity, sing something good and recite it. Lata sang a song decorated with classical music. Noor Jahan listened and Lata sang.
Being happy with the song of the girl, Noor Jahan said that she sings very well, just keep doing Riyaz, you will go ahead. This girl, who did small roles in films for a living, later became the singer of music, Lata Mangeshkar.
Here one thing reminds me of lyricist-director Gulzar that Lata is not just a singer, she has become a part of everyday life of every Hindustani.
Lata had expressed fear of giving poison
Writer Nasreen Munni Kabir wrote a book after interviewing Lata Mangeshkar.
Referring to the recording of a song in the same book, Lata recounts, "In 1962 I was ill for a month. I had an X-ray of my abdomen and was told that I had been given slow poison. It was the servant who cooked the food. That day the servant left without informing. Didn't even take the money."

"Then we thought someone had installed him at our house. We don't know who he was. I was in bed for three months. Then Majrooh Sahab helped me. He used to come home every evening and continued for three months. What I eat, they also eat the same thing.
Lata's journey in the world of music may have ended on touching the heights of success, but its beginning was full of struggle, disdain and troubles.
