Millipede named after Taylor Swift in honor of singer!

Taylor Swift Inspires Experts to Name Millipede Species After Her

There's Now A Millipede In The Name Of Taylor Swift!

Commonly found in the Appalachian Mountains, a millipede is now called Nannaria swiftae.

The rare species is one of 17 found in the region. Its survival is essential for the decomposition and nutrients spread in wood ecosystems.

"Her music helped me get through the highs and lows of graduate school, so naming a new millipede species after her is my way of saying thank you," Virginia Tech entomologist Derek Heinen said in a statement.

They are between 18 and 38 millimeters long, have a black proboscis with white, red or orange spots and white legs.
