Prince Harry's visit to Netherlands more risky than UK, says former police officer

Prince Harry criticized for turning down UK visit

Prince Harry has been warned ahead of his trip to the Netherlands, weeks after the Duke failed to attend a Prince Philip memorial over a security dispute.

Former Met Inspector Ken Wharf told MailOnline he is confused by Harry's concerns about Britain, as he prepares to fly to Holland for the Invictus Games next week.

He added: "I'm baffled as to why Harry thinks he will be safer in the Netherlands than in Britain.

"He may have traveled with his brother or father to his grandfather's memorial service and received protection from the Met.

"It's not like he'll be walking around on a bike in Westminster Abbey."

He said: "The Dutch police will conduct their own security assessment and liaise with Harry's personal security, but I am of the view that it is more risky to go to Holland to support a charity with military links than to come to London last week."

"Harry wants everything to be the way it was before he left for America."

Harry challenged the UK Home Office after refusing to pay for his security upon return. Harry, who argued that UK security does not currently have enough intelligence to protect him in England, admitted he "doesn't feel safe" to bring wife Meghan Markle and children Archie, Lillibet, back home We do.
