Meghan Markle wins hearts for reaching out to Uvalde shooting victim's family

Meghan Markle is being applauded for her sweet gesture of checking on the family of the Uvalde shooting victim

Meghan Markle is being honored for her sweet gesture of calling and checking into the family of Irma Garcia, a teacher who was killed along with 19 children during a school shooting in Uvalde, Texas in May.

The happy news was shared on Twitter by Garcia's nephew John Martinez, who tweeted on Monday: "The way my mom got off the phone with Meghan Markle... the Duchess..."

Martinez praised the Duchess of Sussex for her thoughtful gesture, saying: "She's so sweet and sweet, she really went out of her way to check into the family, it means a lot."

Garcia, 48, teaches at Robb Elementary School, where an 18-year-old gunman shot and killed students and their teachers on May 24.

Her husband, Joe García, also died two days later, possibly from heartache; He had visited García's memorial shortly before his heart attack. The couple had been married for 24 years and left behind four children.

Markle's decision to reach out personally to the families of the victims was unanimously praised on Twitter, with one user commenting: "In my thoughts are your aunts and uncles. Nice to hear your mom feeling loved from around the world Thank you also for reaching out to the victim's family, Meghan."

The phone call comes nearly a month after Markle personally visited the Uvalde memorial and laid flowers for the victims on May 26.
