Johnny Depp is reportedly returning to the film industry after winning a defamation lawsuit against his ex-wife Amber Heard as Netflix prepares to co-finance and stream the actor's next film.
According to reports, the French period film, "La Favre", in which Depp will play King Louis XV, will receive financial backing from Netflix.
The film, directed by Maiven Le Besco, is expected to be released in French cinemas in 2023, and will be available on Netflix France 15 months later. It is unclear whether the film will be available on Netflix worldwide.
La Favourite would be Depp's first cinema role as Hollywood got its back from the Pirates of the Caribbean star after his ex-wife accused him of domestic violence.
The dashing Hollywood star was last featured in a film in 2020, and this will be her first French appearance. According to the Figaro newspaper, this summer is to be shot in three months at locations including the Palace of Versailles. Le Besco will play Madame du Barry, the famous mistress of Louis XV. He has directed critically acclaimed films such as "Polise" and "Mon Roi".
