Karachi's temperature expected to drop to single digits from Jan 22: PMD

Karachi: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Thursday said a cold wave is expected in Karachi next week and added that the mercury is expected to drop by a single digit in the port city from January 22.

The Meteorological Department has predicted strong winds reaching 60 kmph in the coastal areas of Sindh from tomorrow (Friday). Officials said that the wind speed in Karachi could be between 36 and 45 kmph.

The weather in Karachi is expected to remain chilly from January 22 to 26, the PMD said, adding that the mercury is expected to fall below 8 degrees Celsius in the night. High waves may also arise in the sea, warned the PMD.

Meanwhile, the temperature in other cities of the province is likely to drop between 4 and 6 degrees Celsius during the same period, the PMD said.

A westerly wind system is moving towards South Punjab, the PMD said.

"Predominantly cold and dry weather expected over most parts of the country [today]," it added.

Light rain and/or snowfall likely over Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir and adjoining hilly areas.

The weather advisory said that on Friday, rain-wind/snow (with some heavy falls) is expected over Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, North Balochistan, Gilgit Baltistan and Kashmir.
