Prince Andrew quits honorary membership in Royal and Ancient Golf Club

LONDON: Prince Andrew has given up his honorary membership at the Royal and Ancient Golf Club in St Andrews as he is facing a US civil lawsuit for sexual assault.

Queen Elizabeth II's second son has been effectively removed from royal life after Buckingham Palace announced earlier this month that he would give up his honorary military titles and charitable roles.

"The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews has received information that the Duke of York will be relinquishing his honorary membership," said a spokesman for the private members club northeast of Edinburgh.

"We respect and appreciate his decision."

Rajkumar, who is seeking a jury trial to clear his name, has not been charged with a criminal offense and has vehemently denied the charges.
