Re-evaluation of national accounts: share of agriculture sector in GDP growth increased by 1 percent

 


ISLAMABAD: The share of the agriculture sector in GDP growth has increased by 1 per cent from 23 per cent to 24 per cent, while the contribution of the industrial sector declined from 20.9 per cent to 19.5 per cent, as a result of the rebasing of the national accounts. Is. The contribution of services sector to GDP growth increased from 56 per cent to 56.6 per cent through re-base of national accounts done on the basis of base year 2015-16.

The rebasing exercise had an additional impact of Rs.30,508 billion, which includes the agriculture sector's contribution of Rs.7,306 billion, the industrial sector Rs.5,939 billion and the services sector's contribution of Rs.17,261 billion. Base year 2005-6 to 2015-16.

The share of crops in the growth of the agricultural sector declined from 9.9 per cent in the base year 2005-6 to 8.2 per cent in the base year of 2015-16. In 2015-16, the share of major crops in the crop area declined from 5.8 per cent to 4.8 per cent, that of other crops from 3.3 per cent to 3 per cent and cotton tilled from 0.8 per cent to 0.4 per cent.

The share of livestock in the contribution of the agriculture sector to GDP growth increased from 12.1 per cent in 2005-6 to 14.9 per cent based on the base year 2015-16. The contribution of forestry and fishing remained almost the same with the change of base year.

Important crops like wheat, sugarcane, cotton and rice declined from Rs 1,718 billion to Rs 1,462 billion. Other crops increased from Rs 740 billion to Rs 912 billion. Cotton declined from Rs 163 to Rs 122 billion.

Livestock contribution increased from Rs 3,847 billion to Rs 4,532 billion. The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) did not conduct a new census, so the final survey was used to incorporate the updated data. Forestry declined from Rs 171 to Rs 162 billion, while fishing increased from Rs 112 to Rs 116 billion.

The contribution of the industrial sector to GDP growth based on the rebasing exercise declined from 20.9 per cent to 19.5 per cent, as the mining sector declined from 3.3 per cent to 2.3 per cent, the manufacturing sector from 13.8 per cent to 12 per cent, large-scale manufacturing from 11.7 per cent. 9.3 percent. But the contribution of small-scale manufacturing increased from 1.2 to 1.6 percent and slaughter from 0.9 to 1.1 percent.

The contribution of electricity, gas and water supply to GDP growth increased from 1.4 percent to 2.2 percent and the construction sector from 2.4 to 2.9 percent.
