'AGT' alum Yolie Meyer makes a musical comeback during her 'American Idol' audition, sings an original song

Five years have passed since "America's Got Talent" alum Jolie Meyer appeared on the competitive reality TV show, and now, the singer is returning with her "American Idol" season 20 audition.

Meyer's television singing journey began in 2017 when she auditioned for "AGT" and was promptly stopped by judge Simon Cowell during her performance because she appeared as "old-fashioned" for her young age. She sang a second song for her audition, as seen in the video below, and made it to the semifinals with fellow "Idol" Season 20 contestant, Christian Guardino.

Today, at 26, Meyer has completely rebranded her "AGT" audition's formal black gown for a casual yet stylish jumpsuit and traded her then-long locks for a short purple hairstyle. Is.

For her "Idol" audition, the Miami singer channeled her Cuban roots with an original song called "Beautiful, Broken Things" instead of choosing a traditional cover.

The mayor sings a contemporary pop song fondly for judges Lionel Richie, Katy Perry and Luke Bryan and triumphantly announces "I'm a Beautiful Broken Thing" at the end.

While Brian praises Meyer's "command", saying that "people pay attention and cheer" when she starts singing and Richie supports her acting, "entertaining and singing is everything in this business, Perry disagrees.

Although she likes the texture in Meyer's voice, Perry wants her to "play more with the dynamics", adding that the performance "wasn't missing that ride." Her criticism prompts her to say "no".

However, Meyer only needs a "yes" from the two judges to make it to Hollywood and that's exactly what happens when Richie yells "C" and Brian says "yes."

Meyer's audition is part of a one-hour special episode of "American Idol" that airs on ABC after Sunday's Oscars.

The Hollywood round of "Idol" begins Monday, March 28, and will see seven alums mentor contestants through a "Jenner Challenge".
