Shakira and her ex-partner Gerard Pique have handed over the custody battle of their children to two law firms in the hope of settling the issue.
According to Spanish media outlet Marca, the Waka Waka hit-maker wants to take her children, Sasha and Milan, to Miami with the footballer.
However, the sports star is keen to keep the children in Barcelona as he does not want the boys to be placed in a new environment after having recently gone through the separation of their parents.
Now, Shakira and Pique's lawyers will try to find a middle ground that both sides will agree on, according to Spanish newspaper La Vanguardia.
Earlier this month, Shakira released an official statement that she and the Barcelona star had split.
"We regret to confirm that we are separating. For the well-being of our children, who are our top priority, we want you to respect their privacy," the statement read.
It was also reported by EsDiario that the couple called it quits for monetary reasons as the ex-boyfriend of one of Shakira's sister claimed that the singer had refused to pay Pique the money.
"Pique is believed to have asked Shakira for investment money and the singer's family has refused to give it," Roberto Garcia told the outlet. "They don't mix their money and they keep the family economy at 50%."
