Universal Music Group on Thursday announced a deal to acquire the catalog of rock guitarist and composer Frank Zappa's music, recordings and film collections for an undisclosed fee.
In recent times big-name artists such as Bob Dylan, Sting and Neil Diamond have sold their catalogs to music labels, which has helped them generate more revenue from licensing, brand deals and royalties.
The label stated that its music publishing arm Universal Music Publishing Group would receive Zappa's publishing catalog, which included the albums "Joe's Garage", the songs "Cosmic Debris" and "Uncle Remus".
Over the past decade, UMG's global catalog company Universal Music Enterprises and The Zappa Trust have re-released many of Zappa's iconic albums on vinyl and made their catalog of music available for streaming and download.
UMG, which also represents and collects royalties for artists such as Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish and Korean pop group BTS, said in May that they expect the music streaming industry to continue to boom.
