Saki is stuck with the job a year ahead of his planned deadline.
The source told Politico that Saki is about to join MSNBC and will have a show on its streaming partner Peacock.
The chatter has been going on for weeks about Saki leaving the briefing room podium for a TV gig. And her absence with Covid this week has sparked speculation about whether communications director Kate Bedingfield's debut on the podium is meant to fill in duty or is a dry run to land the role permanently.
Psaki has long said that her job as top White House spokesman will be temporary and she is already stuck with the job ahead of the one-year deadline she had planned. During an interview with Politico in November, she had not decided whether she would be on stage during the midterm elections, but often talked about spending more time with her young children.
"I have two young children, as you know, 3 and 6," Saki said in November. “I also think it is a job that is the honor of a lifetime – working for this president at this point in history – but I believe in lifting people up and bringing in new faces and new voices, And I think it's an important part of my role as well."
Bedingfield has expressed interest in playing the role in the past and Biden is familiar to the world. He worked with President Joe Biden in 2015 when he was vice president and his director of communications for the 2020 primary campaign.
Pentagon press secretary John Kirby and deputy press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre have also been projected as potential job contenders. Jean-Pierre will be the first openly gay, black woman to formally serve as the top White House spokesperson.
